Tips to Save You Time While On the Go

With two kids I feel like I am always on the go.  Whether it’s driving kids to and from school, or to activities, it seems we are always in the car. My son plays football in the fall, and practice starts in about two weeks. When football season is here we hardly have time to breathe. My daughter also participates in the cheerleading program, and this year she is signed up for dance. So with summer winding down and school and fall activities right around the corner, our lives are about to get very hectic. Here are some great tips to make your life easier while on the go.

  1. Sleep in your workout clothes so that you are ready when you wake up to workout/ go to the gym.
  2. Lay out everyone’s clothes the night before, so there are no issues with getting out the door on time in the morning.
  3. Pack snacks in Ziploc bags and keep them in your purse. If your kids are anything like mine, they are always hungry. This will allow for a quick and easy snack while on the go.
  4. Save money on drive through iced coffee by buying 4 packs of read to drink Seattle’s Best Iced Coffee. These will be ready in the fridge and easy to grab on the go. Click to save $1.50 on a 4 pack today! I keep these in my fridge and enjoy a can of iced latte while I am running errands.
  5. Plan out your shopping trips. This will save you time and money. Make a list and stick to it. Include in your list any coupons that you will use, and pull those coupons before you leave for the store. Check out my spreadsheet in the tools section to help you plan your trip.
  6. Create a To-Do List and check off each item as you complete it. I find I am much more productive when I see everything I need to accomplish that day, and feel so rewarded with each item I check off. I use a Google Chrome plugin: Todoist.
  7. Make a meal plan based on the current week sales, and items from your stockpile. This will save time when it comes to 5pm and everyone is hungry. Prep the meal the night before so you just have to pop the meal in the oven.
  8. Take breaks throughout the day. I use a timer to keep me focused while I work, and then take a 5 minute break every 25 minutes. A great tool I use is FocusBooster. The timer sounds after 25 minutes, and counts down a 5 minute break.
  9. Use your calendar and set appointments in your calendar with reminders. I like to use Google Calendar so that I can access my calendar at while on the go. I am very forgetful, and setting the calendar to remind me of my appointments, helps me to be on time 🙂
  10. Look for apps and plugins for your phone or tablets that can help you while on the go. I use my Blackberry phone or Playbook to access work while I’m on the go. I am always looking for new apps that I can use to help me work more efficient while I’m on the go, or working by the pool 😉

I hope these tips are helpful to you. Let me know if you have a favorite tip that I left out. With fall right around the corner, the lazy days of summer are going to come to a close and meet us with the crazy hectic schedule that fall brings. Your #1 I can’t do. I can’t do anything until I take a shower – even if I’m about to garden or get sweaty again. I just can’t function.

Always keep a supply of snacks in the car. It helps avoid crankiness and tantrums when there is a hungry kid (or adult) in the car. And it saves time and money by not having to stop in the drive through or the incessant begging when you pass that drive through. And keep a busy box in the car with small toys and activities to help make those long drives go faster.

Thanks, Denise! I can’t keep anything in the car down here, it gets way too hot! On top of the heat I am always worried about ants! I try not to allow the kids to eat in the car, although that hardly ever works lol. We’ve had ants invade our van before, and it’s not fun!

If I shower first I won’t end up working out.
